HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR WILL POWER
CONTENTS
This book has been prepared with great care by the Knowledge Research and Development Wing of Synergy Information Technology. The Knowledge Research and Development Wing consists of Psychologists and Personal Growth experts/HRD experts, Knowledge Management experts, Other Management Experts, Education/Training Specialists and IT experts.
The techniques described have been applied by a lot of people inside and outside our organization and thus found to be effective and practical. We have applied these techniques in different personality types also. Special care has been taken to make the User comfortable with the techniques.
The methods and techniques have been created by integrating modern psychological principles with ancient Indian techniques.
We are very much happy to present this work to you and wish you all success in your endeavor to be a developed person. In this occasion we would like to invite your attention to the words of Dr.William James, father of American Psychology:
"Most people live, whether physically, intellectually or morally, in a very restricted circle of their potential being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness -- much like a man, who, out of his whole bodily organism, should get into the habit of using and moving only his little finger… "
And let us wish you all success again so that the words of Thomas Carlyle become a reality:
"Let each become capable of all that he was created capable of being; expand, if possible, to his full growth, and show himself at length in his own shape and stature, be these what they may." -- Thomas Carlyle.
Please do not read this book simply as if it is a novel. Read it and try to understand the content. Read again if you have not understood the content. Once you understood, select one technique. Then apply it again and again until it becomes a habit. Only then it becomes a part of your knowledge. Only then it becomes a part of your personality. Now select another technique and apply it. Trying to learn and apply every technique simultaneously can be a waste of time and effort. Again, there is some unique pattern which would give you optimum results.
Read again after a few days even if you think you've understood the contents well. Each time you'll get more insights. Relate what you have read to your own direct experiences and knowledge. Try to apply the concept in your daily life.
Take your own time to study the topics.
Do not study the whole thing in one setting.
Take your own time and study topic by topic.
We wish you all the best in your endeavor to conquer yourself
Development of Will Power is Everybody's Business
Everyone should develop Will Power. Whether you're the top executive of a company or a clerk; a student or a professor; man or woman; child or adult doesn't matter. You need to develop your Will Power.
Thus self-development is everybody's business. Whether we know or not, we are expressing ourselves through all our deeds/activities and thoughts. You cannot separate it from your activities.
Today self-development has increased in importance because of the following main reasons:
- the competition has increased and one requires to use his full potentialities to survive
- one needs his unique specialties to keep an advantage or for competence
- one requires to handle more stressful conditions due to very fast and drastic changes.
- So your survival, competence and happiness depends upon the level of your self-development.
"It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell."
- The Buddha, 568-488 BC
We wish you all the best in your endeavor to conquer yourself

Will Power - The First Step to Achievement
"You must have faith in yourself and in your powers. This faith is developed by overcoming obstacles cultivating 'will power', 'exercising' your will. You must learn to overcome the sordid heritage of olden days in yourself and outside you. Even a trifling victory over yourself makes you much stronger." Maxim Gorky
Importance Of Will POWER
Will power is that makes all and every endeavor one undertakes an instant success. The mind that is weak or fluctuating cannot reach the goal at all. So it is important that all of us who want to be successful in our respective fields should strengthen our will power. Again, if one does not have a strong will power, others who understand this would try to exploit it to their own advantage. Those who do not have a good will power fall prey to drugs, alcohol, terrorism etc because of the influence of those who have greater will power. In short, will power is not only important for making one a success but to maintain one's character and integrity as well. Strong will power is required to keep oneself away from illegal/unethical activities or to respond against such activities. Thus it is necessary that all of us should improve our will power.
Note: You should not mistake obstinacy for will power. Will power is a manifestation of your integrity and self-development whereas obstinacy is a manifestation of your weakness.
How To Develop Your Will
All will power is not conscious. In other words, will power is both conscious and unconscious. We can improve conscious will power easily. To develop your will power, you should develop those skills and attitudes that are conducive to the development of will and at the same time remove those blockages and negative parameters that hinder the development of your will.
Believe You Can
If you believe you can, you can.
So believe you can do what you want. Believe you can achieve what you want. Believe you can become a successful person.
YES! You are actually a successful person. What is needed to make it a reality is to believe in yourself and work for it. So tell yourself that you can achieve what you want, can do what you want, and can become immensely successful.
Believe in yourself.
Believe in your ability to become a successful and happy.
Auto Suggestion
The power of Auto Suggestion is tremendous. All of us use it knowingly or unknowingly. If you can use it knowingly, you can work wonders.
By suggesting to yourself that you can achieve what you want you really can achieve that.
Here are some statements you can suggest to yourself :
I can do this and I will do this.
I am OK and I will stay OK
I will become successful
I deserve success and happiness
I am worthy and useful
You can find out similar positive statements and say it to yourself.
Just create a list like the one given above and in your bed room in front of the mirror, tell this to yourself in a confident tone. And believe what you say.
HOW TO OVERCOME YOUR FEARS
There are two steps in overcoming fears. First step is to understand the nature and characteristics of fear in general and your own fears in particular. Fear is of course a state of mind, but it is also an instinct. So, to some extend, we need fear for our own existence. When your fear crosses that limit, you become ineffective and inefficient.
The second step is to encounter your fears. Paradoxically, the most practical method to overcome your fears is to actually encounter with what you fear. This is again done in two steps - encountering the fear situation mentally (i.e, in imagination) and encountering it in real life situation.
Once such an encounter is made safely, you automatically begin to transfer the effect to at least some similar fears.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
With the economy currently experiencing a downturn, there has been a reduction in the number of jobs available and many people are experiencing redundancy or termination of employment contracts. Unemployment is on the rise and even in industries where jobs are still plentiful, there are a huge number of candidates suddenly competing for the same scarce roles. Additionally there is a decrease in the number of traditionally low-skilled jobs available - and heavy competition from incoming workers from Eastern Europe and other countries.
The trend is now for emerging industries to require a strong transferable skills base in staff. Industries such as IT, digital and creative industries, new technology, knowledge and service based industries are burgeoning, as hard industries such as manufacturing decline. For employees, or those re-entering the jobs market, it is vital to respond to these changes and upskill in key areas.
This may involve taking technical qualifications related to your current role, or to target a new job - or to develop transferable and valuable business and personal skills such as communication, negotiation, personal presentation or customer service. Qualifications are also important and there are a vast range of vocational and technical qualifications which sit alongside the traditional academic qualifications and are as equally valued by employees.
The good news however is that career development can now be carried out in a variety of flexible ways. No longer is a person obliged to give up their full time job and return to college - there are options for day release at local centres, home learning by traditional correspondence, or online based courses with online or telephone tutor support and practical elements carried out at weekend courses.
Home based learning has always been popular. Look at providers such as Open University, ICI or any number of learning providers that advertise in specialist learning press, on TV or online. Grants are also available for many people returning to study or to develop their careers - anything from bursaries to one-off payment relief contributions provided by the government or learning agencies.
Nowadays there is also a huge range of different learning routes available using online or home based courses - some of the more traditional courses that traditionally needed to be carried out by attendance at local institutions can now be carried out in the comfort of your own home thanks to online support and interactive tutoring, with practical placements to boost theoretical knowledge where necessary. There`s something to suit everyone too - browse through course listing directories for everything from interior decorating to nursing, acrylic nail techniques, IT, languages and Home Learning Social Care Courses.
The important thing is to take action today - whether that involves simply finding out more about courses in general, or requesting brochures for courses you`ve seen and are interested in. The jobs market will only continue to move around you and competition continues to intensify - however with so many flexible and supportive learning options and courses and qualifications to interest you, there are plenty of ways to make sure you are right up there when it comes to winning those jobs!

More Reasons Why Failure Can Be Healthier Than Success

Failure Provides Education
As kids, we generally go to school during the years 5 to 15. Most of us go onto complete High Schooling and many continue with tertiary education at college. Education provides knowledge. We are expanding our capabilities based on what we are learning. As we learn, we try out new ways based on our newfound knowledge.
It is this very trying out of new ways that acts as a measurement of our abilities. If we succeed then well and good - you know what works. It is how you view failure that can make the difference. If you fall short, your failure is merely a measurement of your abilities. Examine where you are lacking and go about strengthening this weakness.
There is always at least one valuable lesson in failure. It's a very big educator and provides instruction that no theory can replace. This is why many of today's wealthiest people experienced a handful of bankruptcies
before they got it right. If you don't try, you'll never pick up the mandatory experience that failure provides before you succeed.
Failure Tests Your Dedication/Commitment
By now, I would hope that your goal list is more than a piece of paper with a few pipe dreams written over it. Your goals need to be your focus. They are important. They are a part of what makes you tick. Goals create futures with meaning and purpose. Pipe dreams will leave you deflated and empty. Put your goal list in your wallet, next to your computer - anywhere that you will see the list! Ensure that your goals are for your eyes only as it's your future not someone else's.
(Detailed information regarding the creation of your personal Goal List is given in "Making Your Success Inevitable". The first two chapters covering this theme is a part of your Bronze Membership. You can enroll for your Bronze Membership FREE right here and tap into these resources now.)
http://topliving.com/bronze-app.htm
It is your drive, your dedication that will give you the strength to make your dreams reality. This is so important that after you have attempted something and come up short - what do you do. Do you perceive yourself as a failure and crawl back into your shell with no plan to re-emerge? The other option is to carry the first point a little further and use failure as a point of measurement.
You erred. So what? You know where you are now. Leverage the knowledge you have to try again. If you don't, failure will be long term and will prove that you weren't dedicated to achieving your all-important goals. Your
goals are very important and your commitment to them will be more than evident in how you view failure.
Failure Creates More Comprehensive Planning
Why does failure happen? Were we silly? Were we ignorant? Did we set our goal too high? Were we ill-prepared? Whatever the reason, we need to look at "why" in great detail. We can then make another attempt and increase our chances with our newfound knowledge.
Like many things, if we are in control, we stand a better chance of success. The best way to stay in control of any situation is to have written strategies to support your written goals.
In reality, your goal list is a general plan. It may comprise short-term and long-term or even life-time goals. On your way to realizing these goals, you will make some decisions that don't work. It is prudent, based on the lessons of failure, to plan comprehensively. This allows you to put your best foot forward with more certainty as you have calculated the odds deep into your advantage by having written the script.
Failure Once Understood Can Be Mastered
Baby Boomers were raised on the understanding that failure is bad and to be avoided at all costs. Sure, failure can hurt - especially when you believe you have done the work to make for a positive result.
In contrast, failure should almost be welcomed. Failure and Success are both results. To achieve either is to show that you are following your conviction with vigor. Action speaks louder than words. It is your action that will create opportunities. It is less dependent on the short-term results. You will fail to start with. You have to. You don't know enough to succeed overnight.
So many people go looking for the "one size fits all" secret or some mystical non-existent formula that will make all the difference. This is not the way to do it. You need to see failure for its true value. As has been discussed in this report, failure educates - you become more knowledgeable. This leads to more comprehensive planning. When this still may not be enough - it measures your resolve. It checks your commitment.
Failure can be equaled to an audit report on someone's business. It tells you where you are heading and reflects areas requiring attention. Imagine if a businessperson received their financial year end audit report and saw the results weren't quite as good as was forecast. Does this failure warrant giving up or is it simply advisory showing where attention is needed?
Giving up is when long-term failure is guaranteed. Leverage failure for it's true value. We have all had our share of failures. It's how we react to them that will make or break us. Stick to your goals and ensure failure serves you well.
Take authors for example. An unknown writer approaches an agency with a new book. Will the author be accepted by the first to read it? Most likely not. This doesn't mean they give up. Imagine if the author of Harry Potter had done this. No one would have been able to experience the true magic of her work had she given up.

BREATHING
"Find a place where you are alone. Train yourself in the following way: When you breathe in, experience breathing in. When you breathe out, be fully conscious that you are breathing out. If you cherish and practice this, it will bear great fruit. Whatever you are doing and wherever you are, you will find steadiness, calm, and concentration if you become conscious of your breathing." - Majjhima Nikaya. From "Buddha Speaks," edited by Anne Bancroft, 2000.
This is the most important of all biological functions. It is true that we do not have to deliberately do our breathing but still paying greater attention to one's own breathing can do. Experts are of opinion that we need to learn how to breath effectively because most of us are not at all breathing correctly. You can take a simple self-test designed by Dr.Buteyko to see your breathing is correct and sufficient or not. (See the Buteyko Breathing Test given last).
The body needs oxygen for producing energy for doing work. The pH level of the blood is to be maintained so that we can function effectively. The body also need carbon dioxide for the effective functioning of the body.
A balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide is required for the body to function properly. The maintenance of normal pH (acidity-alkalinity balance) is done by retaining adequate carbon dioxide in the body. If you over breathe, the depletion of carbon dioxide results and consequently we are unable to use oxygen properly.
It has been observed that asthma patients breathe an average of 27 litres per minute. Reducing this to 9 litre per minute often reduced the need for medication in asthma patients.
According to WHO in good breathing we breath 6 litre of air per minute. Good breathing uses the diaphragm where as bad breathing uses the upper chest alone. The movement of the diaphragm gently massages the abdominal organs. This helps to correct acid reflux and gall bladder problems. Good breathing keeps 5.5 to 6.5% of carbon dioxide in the lungs which helps regulation of the pH levels of the body.
The Importance of Carbon Dioxide
Tolerance to carbon dioxide is low in bad breathers. Carbon dioxide tolerance can be improved by swimming, walking, running, aerobic exercises etc. Highly processed foods (like fast foods) contribute to bad breathing.
Increased acidity levels in the body tend to increase one's breathing. Higher levels of acidity is the result of 1. Disease 2. Mineral deficiency 3. Excess of protein and grain in diet. Acidity may also increase as part of allergic response.
Respiratory alkalosis, a condition in which the body becomes more acidic due to the loss of minerals and bicarbonates, can result from over breathing.
When you breath more, you lose more carbon dioxide from your system which results in the constriction of blood vessels leading to high BP. If the breathing is normalized, BP lowers.
The nervous system becomes more excitable due to a drop in the carbon dioxide levels in the body. Heart pounding, breathlessness, tingling and numbness in hands, feet and face, dizziness, feeling of unreality etc. may result if one breathes quickly and deeply for a few minutes. By proper breathing, these symptoms can be removed.
The immune system is also significantly affected by breathing. It is found that good breathing improves immunity significantly. Because cancer cells use anaerobic metabolism, correct breathing can check the growth of cancer cells.
Bad breathing also results in fatigue. Anxiety and other emotional reactions gives the sympathetic nervous system dominance resulting in the waste of a lot of energy. This causes fatigue and laziness. Normalizing breathing have helped people to recover from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Breathing can be used for restoring rest, relaxation and energy of the body. Researches have also shown that both the production and sensitivity to insulin are significantly improved as a result of normalized breathing.
Buteyko Breathing Test
This breathing test is based on that developed by Dr. Buteyko, and tests whether your breathing is correct or not.
You need a stop watch to measure the time. You can also use a wrist watch if you are adept at using it for measuring a duration. You can even seek the help of someone else to note the time for you.
- exhale normally
- hold breath and simultaneously start the stop watch
- hold on breathing until you want to resume breathing.
- Resume breathing and stop the stop watch simultaneously
- Find out how many seconds elapsed and refer to the following table for a description
